"Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project

At the Port Hope Archives we try to pick a new project to do every year.  The project for 2013-2015 was an oral history entitled “Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope.”  It was conducted over the spring and summer months by interviewing various residents and business owners in town, filming the interviews for inclusion in the archives collection.

There were several goals for the project:
  • To gather first-hand accounts of historic Port Hope businesses in the downtown core…
  • To document individual memories of downtown events and buildings…
  • To create a visual document that highlights the vibrant past and present of Port Hope’s downtown area…
  • To show YOUR memories to the world on the internet – and in the archives – for future generations.

This project is now available for researchers as part of the Port Hope Archives' permanent collection.  Thank you to all of our volunteer interviewees for making this project a success!

Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope is available on YouTube!  Watch our channel for more memories!
